According to massage therapist and owner of Pure Massage, Beata Aleksandrowicz, massaging the eye area is as important as any area of the face. ‘All the muscles in the face are connected to each other, rather like a spider’s web, and the pulling and pushing effect of massage calms the tissue’, says Beata. ‘After a treatment, my clients eyes are brighter, fresh and more refined’.
Beata suggests the following anti-ageing eye massage to do at home:
1. Apply a small amount of moisturiser around your eye area, making sure that you don’t stretch the fragile skin under your eye. Close your eyes, and using the index fingers and thumbs of both your hands, gently squeeze the eyebrow muscles close to your nose. Make sure that your fingers rest on the eyebrow bones. Hold, count to five and slowly release.
2. Move along your eyebrow muscles and squeeze again. Avoid any thumb pressure on your eyeballs. Hold, count to five and slowly release. Work all along to the ends of your eyebrows. Avoid pinching the skin and make sure you are holding the muscles underneath.
3. Place your index fingers in the inner corner of each eye. Using your finger pads, move along above the upper eyelid, making tiny, gentle circles. When you reach the outer corners of your eyes, continue along the lower lid and finish at the inner corners. Repeat three times.
4. Place the index and middle fingers of both hands behind your ears. Breathing regularly, massage this area in a light circular motion for one minute. A lymphatic reservoir is located here and improved lymph flow will condition your eye area and prevent eye bags forming.
