The fashions for autumn winter 2010/11 are literally poles apart! There are streamlined and restrained shapes as well as fifties starlet inspired ultra-feminine looks. Trousers are key with flattering leg-lengthening seventies inspired flares and bootcut styles making a welcome return, and camel is the new black. Maxi and midi lengths go from strength-to-strength with romantic skirts and dresses, worn with biker-style jackets, hemlines are literally sweeping the floor…
Not all trends work for everyone so we suggest you update your wardrobe each season by picking a few key looks that suit you…

GET CURVYIt's official - the waif is out – curvy is in! Get the look by investing in a full skirt with nipped-in waist in a fifties inspired check or floral. Make sure it sits on, or just below, the knee for the most flattering effect. Wear with a cute little sweater or corseted top. Add lady-like bag, a slim belt, long gloves, or kitten heels with pointy toes to complete the look. |

LOVE STORYTransform your evening wear this season with a pair of flattering high-waisted wide-leg pants. Wear with a tucked-in silky blouse and skinny belt for a seventies inspired glossy look. Opt for mannish tailoring. Wear shades head-to-toe, key tones being camel, toffee or russet. Great news for curvy girls - the boot-cut is back which really balances you out. Wide-leg trousers are very flattering on just about everyone, add heels for a leg-lengthening and bottom minimising effect. But if trousers aren't for you, try the three-quarter-length midi style skirt. Hobbs - Augustine Coat |

CAMELIt's time to replace your old black tailored coat with an oversized masculine cut or cape style in camel – the key shade of the season and a must-have in your wardrobe! Camel suits most skin tones and you can wear it top-to-toe or combine with red. Whatever you do, cinch your coat or flared trousers in at the waist with a slim leather belt. |

TAILORINGThis autumn is all about well-cut coats and tailoring. Wear a crisp white shirt with a pencil skirt or go the whole-hog in a three piece mannish pinstripe trouser suit. ASOS |

HIGHLAND FLINGYou will find plaids and tweeds in just about every style this winter. Choose from A-line shift mini-dresses, kilt style skirts, sharply cut coats or even dramatic capes. Lift the look with a crisp white shirt. |

RED HOTRed is this season's most key bright ranging from intense post-box red to scarlet, russet and pumpkin. Be brave and wear head-to-toe, or combine with camel for a more subtle and up to the minute look. Accessorise any outfit with a red tote or kitten heels. Hobbs at House of Fraser |

LACEDelicate lace is key to this season's romantic look. Try a double-layer lace shift dress or top layered over another colour with a black leather pencil or circle skirt and opaque tights. High heels and matt red lips finish off this seductive look. This season, you will even find accessories such as clutch bags with lace. |

CHUNKY KNITSThe 'statement' knit is key this season and the chunkier the better. Invest in a fine knit maxi dress, cosy fake-fur trimmed cardi-coat, oversized warm wrap, ribbon-threaded detailing or cable knit. River Island |

MAXI DRESSESBefore you pack away your floral maxi dress, think twice, because the maxi look is just as big for autumn as it was for summer. Update and wear with an aviator style sheepskin-lined cropped jacket, or neat little sweater and a skinny belt. Add a pair of high-heeled hiker boots for a look that is bang-on-trend. Fine-knitted, jersey and velvet floor-skimming maxi skirts and dresses are ideal day-to-evening wear options for the coming months. Add some statement gold jewellery and you've got the party looked nailed. |

STATEMENT COATThis winter's new must-have jacket is aviator style with sheepskin lining. Capes are also big news and high on impact this autumn. You can't go wrong with a stylish oversized mannish coat or keep the chill out and cosy-up with a shaggy faux fur coat this winter. Camel, navy or grey are the key colours to instantly update your wardrobe. Next |

ACCESSORISEThe high-heeled hiker-boot with sheepskin lining and buckle-up straps is the must-have footwear item. On your arm wear a lady-like bag. Pointy kitten heels or loafer styles with block heels are the shoes to be seen in. Keep jewellery to a minimum with simple gold pieces completing this season's minimalist trend. River Island |
