Celebrity Nail Guru, Leighton Denny gives us the low down on the hot nail colours of the season and how to give your hands that youthful finish.

Fashionable Fingers
I was really inspired by the Autumn Winter catwalk looks when I first saw them back in February 2010, with their opulent and indulgent feel. Daring aubergines, hot scarletts, gunmetal greys, to rich royal blues - It’s grown up elegance and glamour with an edge.
Dark, rich, voluptuous colours are all the rage this season, so don't be a wall flower, dare to flaunt your fingers in style.
Another inspiring look spotted at London Fashion Week this September was the gilt tipped nail. Models were sent down the catwalk with dramatic gilded-look make-up, heavy glitter or solid metallic shades of gold, purple and silver on the eyes and nails to complement the glowing skin and big hair. This trend works really well on nails. To keep it modern and interesting the glitter or metallics should be applied only to the tips of the nail. Golden Girl, Angel Dust or Diamond Diva are all great shades from my collection for creating this look. For a luxe look, try applying a glitter polish over a solid shade. Try to choose a glitter colour that flatters your skin tone; olive or dark complexions work well with golds and purples, whilst paler complexions suit silvers and grey's.
A Youthful Tip...
As you get older, there is no reason why you shouldn’t continue to wear the hottest nail colours around. They help to give a more youthful and ‘put together’ look as long as your hands and nails are well manicured. Here are some easy tips to prepare your hands at home....
1. Use a treatment oil like my Intense Manicure Oil to soften cuticles, moisturise hands and strengthen nails.
2. To keep nails looking youthful and healthy, buff out any ridges that appear. This will also give a smooth base for colour.
3. If your nails are brittle or dry try my Hydra Flex Nail Treatment, which will really help to make your nails stronger and smoother.
4. Finally use a gentle nail shaper like my Crystal Nail File to create a soft oval, which will suit more mature hands best.
Sun damage and dry skin quickly ages the hands, so keep them nourished and soft with a good hand cream, preferably one with sun protection (try my Best Defence) – keep it in your bag to reapply through the day or put one by the sink and on your desk at work. Protect hands from daily ravages as much as possible by wearing rubber gloves when doing household chores and gloves during the cold weather.
