And its not just your face, your hair and clothes can age you too.   Think about it - you may have a flawless complexion, but your clothes are dated and frumpy or perhaps your clothes are fab but your hair's grey?  Like it or not, right or wrong, your appearance plays a huge part in how old you look.

Spring/summer 2010 sees a welcome return to colour. Turn your back on black and take your pick from soft nudes to pretty, mouth-watering pastels or shocking neon brights. Fabrics are sheer, lightweight, draped and high tech and the mood is feminine…but with a twist!

Not all trends work for everyone so we suggest you update your wardrobe each season by picking a few key looks that suit you…

 

Nudes

Trousers, dresses, tops and skirts in a nude colour are a great way to update your wardrobe this season. It’s important to choose the right nude for your skin tone though. Darker skinned ladies can get away with most shades, be more careful and opt for slightly stronger hue if you have pale skin.

Prints

Prints

With this summers’ prints - just about anything goes. Mix-up checks, animal prints, larger than life florals, ditsy florals, batik, ikat, Breton stripes and neon brights. Statement jewellery or heels finish off this truly ‘global' look. Top tip: keep hair and make-up simple with this season's loud graphic and clashing designs.

Pastels

Pastels are huge this season. Choose from lilac, peach, lemon, rose, apple green and duck egg blue. Add interest with gingham, a bit of sparkle, lace or chiffon detailing.

White

Freshen-up your wardrobe with head-to-toe white for a high summer, yet pristine feel. Add interest with ruffles, sheer fabrics, layering or structured shapes, and don’t forget to mix and match your classic white shirt!

The short is a must-have piece this season. Wear yours rolled-up mid thigh and slouchy, a-line, knee length city or bloomer style. If you’ve the pins for it, flaunt them in short shorts this season and a pair of wedges will lengthen the legs!

You can wear denim head to-toe this season – but keep the rest simple - or mix it with something grey and sporty. Choose from dungarees, shirt-dresses, waistcoats, button-through skirts and jeans in all shapes and styles.

Utility

Utility brought up-to-date with a feminine tweak made a welcome return to the catwalks. Glam up a pair of khaki combat style slim-leg trousers with a subtle metallic jacket, layered over a white vest or tee. For outerwear, the sand coloured four pocket jacket is one of this season’s key pieces and so is the parka.

Dare to wear a corset under a blazer or cardi this season. A flash of a pretty cami or bra or a lace slip peeping out from under a skirt all add to this season’s feminine feel. Or invest in lace. Remember to keep this look subtle though – yes, less is most definitely more!

Sporty

Layer high-tech cottons under a soft hooded jersey sweat and add heels to those track pants for this season’s laid back, yet fashion forward look. Add a piece of denim and you’re ready to go...

Belt-up with a lightweight trench this season in a beige, cream or pastel. Top tip: Large chested ladies opt for single breasted styles, although double is most definitely back in town!

Wedges, wooden high heeled studded clogs and the return of the kitten heel are key footwear for the season. Fringing on bags is big news and the bum bag is back! Piles of big bangles or a chunky necklace finish off an outfit nicely. Clinch-in and accentuate your waist with a statement belt.
